On November 5th, Hudson River Housing will commemorate Homelessness Awareness Month at our 15th Annual Wind Chill Dinner, a fundraiser for our programs that serve those experiencing homelessness.  This year’s event will be held at the Mark A. Paganelli Memorial Pavilion located at 1 Violet Avenue in Poughkeepsie on Friday, November 5th from 5-7pm, where we will gather in person in a covered and heated outdoor space to learn more deeply about the experience of homelessness, and how our community is working together to prevent and end it.

It costs about $13 per day to provide emergency shelter for an individual, and $30 per day for a family, including a warm bed, three meals a day, and access to a compassionate team of care managers, counselors, and advocates. In 2020, we provided emergency housing for over 540 individuals and over 230 families. Despite the provision of government resources to house those in need, we still face a budget deficit of $150,000 every year to provide emergency shelter services. Your support to help fill this gap is crucial to helping our community continue to recover and strengthen, and move us toward our vision of a world where no one is homeless.

Highlights at the Wind Chill Dinner will include special guest speakers, personal testimonies from those who have experienced homelessness, and remarks from our Executive Director Christa Hines. Guests will enjoy light appetizers, bar service, and a humble meal of nourishing homemade soups, salads and bread provided by the VFW Auxiliary.

All local, state, and federal covid protocols will be followed.
