About the Talk: Phillip Adams presents "Wild Ride," a 90-foot mural inspired by the South Branch of the Raritan River. This work, crafted alongside the museum's retention wall, captures the essence of a river's journey, reminding us of a time before industrialization and our transformative impact on the environment. The mural, adorned with a fleet of origami boats, symbolizes creativity, curiosity, and wonder, reflecting the museum's mission to educate, challenge, and inspire community through the arts.

In his main gallery exhibition, "Leave No Trace," Adams delves into humanity's intricate relationship with nature. He challenges our impulses to control and reshape landscapes, presenting a paradox of our desire for permanence in an ever-changing world. With a focus on the pressing climate crisis, Adams' art strikes a balance between the seriousness of our changing environments and playful, whimsical elements.

Drawing from early theories of the Sublime, Adams' landscapes evoke awe, beauty, and terror. He crafts these compositions from real places, using photographs from his personal adventures and historical images. The materials, primarily charcoal, graphite, and acrylic on wood panels, echo the exhibition's themes.
