IMNF and the Kanikapila Project have joined forces to present the Aloha Tour 2022.  This Ukulele Concert will feature Kimo Hussey and will take place at the United Lutheran Church on the Wartburg Senior Living Campus located in Mount Vernon.  Proceeds from this event will be used to bring music therapy to those in need.

The event will be livestreamed, however, a limited amount of tickets will be sold for an up-close-and-personal experience with Kimo Hussey.  Vaccinations and masks are required.

Kanikapila is a style of Hawaiian music produced in an impromptu jam session. The Kanikapila Project is an organization who's mission is about access to music.  They strive to increase access to music therapists.  Learn more at https://www.kanikapilaproject.org/

Kimo is a world-renowned Hawaiian performer and educator who has taught ukulele workshops and performed at Ukulele Festivals in more than 18 different countries and at least 35 different states.  He began playing ukulele when he was five years old, growing up enjoying the tradition of kanikapila, further developing his deep love of music. As a graduate of Kamehameha Schools in Hawaii, Kimo went on to complete a degree in Choral Conducting from California’s Occidental College, and perform with the university in the U.S and Europe.  After graduation, he joined the Air Force and spent more than 30 years as an officer and pilot, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel and experienced leader.

Since retiring from the Air Force, Kimo has focused on the service side of music, and has donated his time starting the Pacific Music Foundation, and serving as the Board Chair of Sounding Joy Music Therapy. Sounding Joy was the first non-profit in the state specializing in music therapy for both Hawaii’s children and adults with disabilities.

Kimo also served for more than five years as the President of the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii, and developed free music programs for children in low income Title I schools, and disabled veterans recovering from combat related physical injuries and PTSD.  Kimo organized regular music visits to senior centers locally as well as on the mainland and overseas, children’s hospitals for cancer treatment, hospice venues, and promoted the critical importance of music therapy at ukulele events around the world.   Perhaps most importantly, Kimo is widely regarded as one of the most engaging and talented ukulele instructors available today, with a charming style, and ability to relate to both the most advanced and most basic audiences.

Kimo is one of four authors for the most widely-published Hawaiian music book in the world, He Mele Aloha, which has been published in more than a dozen languages.   He has also published two albums of ukulele music including the soothing instrumental “Eminent ‘Ukulele” (1999), and his internationally recognized and beloved “Low G” (2015), showcasing his virtuosic and imaginative mastery of jazz, pop, Hawaiian standards, and other music forms.
