75 Years of Serving People on the Move

Through the efforts of Pope Pius XII, Monsignor Giovanni Battista Montini (future Pope Paul VI), and American layman James Norris, ICMC was created in 1951 after World War II to unite and organize existing Catholic associations and committees, and to promote, reinforce, and coordinate their activities on behalf of migrants and refugees. ICMC does this by working through a worldwide network of Catholic Bishops Conferences and Catholic-inspired organizations. Shaped by the major refugee crises of the post-war era and the development of migration as a complex phenomenon, ICMC's history provides rich insight into the efforts of the global Church to ensure safety and dignity for all people on the move.

As we take the opportunity to celebrate ICMC and our global network's achievements, we look to the future with a renewed mission to emphasize Gospel values and bridge the gap between the global Church and refugee and migrant communities around the world. We remain deeply grateful for the many generous donors, including anonymous supporters, whose commitment has made our work possible.
