This year, The Jewish Board is celebrating 150 years of empowering New Yorkers through life-changing mental health, housing, and other social services. The Jewish Board is proud to present our Trustee Laurie Lindenbaum with the Saul Z. Cohen Leadership Award in recognition of her significant contributions to our mission. We are also pleased to be recognizing Randy Wood, a partner of ESKW/Architects, with the Schiff Community Impact Award for his leadership in designing affordable and supportive housing developments for The Jewish Board and other nonprofits across New York City.

Money raised by The Jewish Board's Spring Benefit helps The Jewish Board to deliver programs that serve communities throughout the five boroughs. These programs include community mental health clinics, treatment programs for at-risk youth, training for mental health professionals, residential treatment centers for adults with mental illness and the developmentally disabled, therapy in group and individual sessions for single parents and anyone struggling with grief following the loss of a loved one, and so much more.

About the Honorees

Laurie Lindenbaum, a Jewish Board Trustee committed to helping young people thrive, is this year’s recipient of the Saul Z. Cohen Leadership Award.

A high school educator at Riverdale Country School since 2010, Laurie became a Trustee of The Jewish Board in 2015. As a long-time co-chair of the Youth & Family Services Committee, Laurie has overseen the division that cares for thousands of New York’s most vulnerable youth through a combination of residential and community-based mental health programs. She also serves on the Ethics, Law & Reputation;, Budget & Finance;, and Governance & Nominating committees and was involved in the agency’s recent Strategic Planning Task Force. In addition to The Jewish Board, Laurie serves on the Board of Trustees of the Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball High School and volunteers for Getting Out and Staying Out, tutoring “justice- involved” youth and assisting them with job readiness.

Laurie holds an MBA in Marketing and a Master’s in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University and is a graduate of Harvard College.   Prior to teaching, she worked in Product Management at Best Foods.   Laurie, her husband Bob Horne, and their family are long-time members of Central Synagogue. She and Bob have three children: Sarah, Max, and Rachel.

Randy Wood, a partner of ESKW/Architects, will be accepting this year’s Schiff Community Impact Award.

Randy joined ESKW/Architects (known at the time as The Edelman Partnership/Architects) in 1988. He became a partner in 1998 and has worked closely with dozens of clients over the years, including The Jewish Board. Under Randy’s leadership, the company has designed and built numerous affordable and supportive housing developments, schools, community centers, and healthcare facilities. Randy has been an important supporter of our work to renovate our housing programs, partnering with us on the White Plains Road Community Residence, our three Bronx-based children's Community Residences, the Burnside Residence, and more. His projects, including the New York Aquarium’s permanent exhibit, “Ocean Wonders: Sharks!,”, have been recognized with awards from New York City’s Public Design Commission, the Preservation League of New York State, and the Society of American Registered Architects.

ESKW/Architects was founded in 1960; one of their first major projects was the Sinai Reform Temple of Bayshore. Much like The Jewish Board, Randy Wood and ESKW/Architects have shaped the landscape of today's New York City over decades.
