Kukua Institute is teaching a robotics-infused black history course in Pensacola, Florida, in honor of Black History Month.

The course highlights the fate of the Viola Edwards Hospital which opened in 1922 by an African-American trained nurse named Viola Edwards, her 12-room hospital became the first African American-owned hospital in the Historic Belmont DeVilliers neighborhood of Pensacola, Florida. From 1922 to 1927, the hospital stood as a place for healing and hope.  

This course is designed for middle and high school students and will be instructed by Dr. Sandra Winborne and Lloyd Reshard. The classes will be held at the Kukua Institute on Saturday, February 18 and Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.


This course will be offered several more times throughout the year.
