Lake Champlain Waldorf School and Kidpower Vermont are holding a family workshop to help learn and practice skills for safety! Families registering for this workshop will meet for three consecutive Saturdays in April (5th, 12th, and 19th).

Specifically designed for kids and their grown-ups, these sessions are open to anyone (not just Lake Champlain Waldorf School current students). Registration closes Monday, March 31. Each session requires a minimum of 8 families to run.

“Starting Strong” family workshop series for children ages 4-6 and their adults

April 5, 12, 19 from 9:00-9:45 am

In this People Safety skills series, we will introduce simple skills to handle unkind words, check first before touching something unsafe, move away from someone doing unsafe things such as throwing sand or playing too roughly, and get help from adults effectively, even when they are busy. A few simple but powerful skills help kids notice, stop, and get help with potential safety problems like these and many others. Adults will learn how to incorporate safety concepts into everyday life.

Through storytelling, puppets, and interactive role-plays, children and their adults will be introduced to age-appropriate ways young people can do the following:

Session 1 - April 5

● Be aware, calm & confident
● Be safe with hurtful words

Session 2 - April 12
● Move out of reach of a potential problem
● Check first with adults if something seems unsafe

Session 3 - April 19
● Set strong boundaries
● Say “No” or “Stop” clearly and respectfully
● Stop unwanted touch
● Get help from busy adults

Through demos, role plays, and group activities, families will learn and practice applying our safety skills.
