For the first time, Little Lights will be hosting a Race Literacy 101 Retreat. This will be an abbreviated version of the popular semester-long Race Literacy 101 class, taught by the Executive Director of Little Lights, Steve Park.
An intimate group of up to 15 attendees will spend a weekend learning and discussing authentically and thoughtfully on the issue of race and racism in an honest yet grace-filled environment, while sharing meals and staying at the Retreat House. The retreat will include education on the history of the ideology of race, some Scripture study, and times for discussion and dialogue.
One of the primary sources we will draw from is the Race: Power Of An Illusion video series, as well as other materials teaching about the history and the “science” of race, so we can better understand what this thing called "race" actually is. The retreat will also seek to be part of the solution not only by educating people, but also by bringing hope to an issue that has caused so much pain, tension, and division.
Cost: $220 per person (includes up to 5 meals)
Dates: Friday, January 31st, 7pm to February 2nd at 10am
(Programming will end Saturday at 8pm. Attendees are welcome to stay and reflect until Sunday morning at 10am or leave after the end of the program Saturday night. Cost will remain the same for either departure option).
Attendees must be referred by a previous Race Literacy 101 attendee, referred by Little Lights, or referred by a Little Lights church partner. Those who previously took the Race Literacy 101 class are also invited to participate.
Please email Steve Park at email@example.com for more information or with questions.
Financial aid may be available for those who would like to attend but are experiencing financial hardship.
