Over the past year, I’ve reached out to Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) several times on behalf of individuals experiencing mental health crises who didn’t know where to turn. Each time, MHC responded immediately, helping locate resources, providing guidance, and offering critical support during moments of real urgency.

Today, significant funding cuts threaten nonprofits and programs like MHC's Deaf Rec, a vital community-based initiative that brings adults who are Deaf or hard of hearing together through recreational and social activities. The group meets monthly, and because all participants are low-income, MHC offsets costs to ensure services remain accessible to all. Deaf Rec reduces isolation, builds meaningful connections, and supports mental well-being in an inclusive, affirming space. 

This year, my goal is to raise $3,000 to help sustain Deaf Rec and ensure this critical program can continue serving the community.

To support this effort, I’m hosting a wine-tasting fundraiser featuring the diverse and vibrant wines of Italy. During the tasting, we’ll explore how Italy’s dramatic mountains, rolling hills, and surrounding seas create ideal conditions for some of the world’s most beloved wines. From bright, sparkling Proseccos and crisp Pinot Grigios of the north, to classic Sangiovese-based wines from Tuscany and the bold, rich reds of Sicily, this evening will be a celebration of flavor, community, and impact—all in support of mental health and connection.
