As a valued supporter and advocate of marginalized communities, we invite you to join   MinKwon Center for Community Action and NAKASEC, our national organization, as a sponsor of our joint Anniversary Gala on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Throughout 2021, NAKASEC and the MinKwon Center have been leading Korean and Asian American organizations in meeting the needs of and advocating for low-income immigrant communities. Collectively, through our network’s eight offices in New York, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, we have directly supported over 55,000 Korean and Asian immigrants navigate and access government programs such as unemployment insurance, renter’s assistance, and small business relief loans through linguistically and culturally competent social services. In New York City alone, MinKwon Center has leveraged government, corporate, and individual funds to provide over $6 million of financial assistance to our community; resources they would not be able to attain otherwise. This is in addition to $2.5 million of legal and social service benefits MinKwon Center already provides in the areas of immigration including the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program and citizenship, food stamps, healthcare, unemployment, and housing.

Nationally, we have engaged our community members in community oranizing, advocacy and civic engagement campaigns and programs. Our Citizenship For All Campaign protected the DACA Program and continues to organize towards citizenship for all undocumented community members, including intercountry adoptees without citizenship. We coordinate robust state-based voter engagement work in all five of our states, collectively engaging over 300,000 Asian Americans in direct voter registration, voter education, and get out the vote activities to ensure our community members participate in building a strong democracy.

Our community members continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic, with low-income immigrant communities bearing the brunt of its effects. In New York and across the country, we continue to see the impact of and the tragedies that result from the rise in anti-Asian hate. NAKASEC and the MinKwon Center remain committed to meeting the needs of and advocating for the most vulnerable and empowering our community.

This year’s event will bring together community leaders and stakeholders from around the country to raise support for MinKwon Center for Community Action and NAKASEC’s critical programs and campaigns.
