In this final session of our 2022-2023 Racial Justice Training Series and Book Club, Prof. Kristin Henning, Director of the Juvenile Justice Clinic & Initiative at Georgetown Law, and Ebony Howard, Deputy Director of the Gault Center, will be joined by Clarence Ford, Social Justice and Wellbeing Advisor at the W. Haywood Burns Institute; Prof. Christy E. Lopez, Professor from Practice and Faculty Co-Director of the Center for Innovations in Community Safety at Georgetown Law; and Jonathan Stith, National Director and Founding Member of the Alliance for Educational Justice.

Please join us to:

• Interrogate the logic upholding carceral responses to social problems;
• Consider the power of storytelling to effect social change;
• Review the research on adolescent resilience;
• Strategize about how youth defenders can use storytelling and adolescent resilience to enhance their youth representation and reform efforts;
• Imagine an approach to public safety free of the presumption of Black and Brown criminality;
• Identify alternatives to traditional law enforcement strategies for school and community safety;
• Identify practical steps defenders and youth advocates can take to improve outcomes for youth inside and outside of court.

This session will be built around Chapter 12, #BlackBoyJoy and #BlackGirlMagic: Adolescent Resilience and Systems Reform, of Prof. Henning's book, The Rage of Innocence: How America Criminalizes Black Youth.
