Tidal Toast is Newtown Creek Alliance’s annual celebration of Newtown Creek! Bringing together community members, local businesses, and long-time champions of the Creek, Tidal Toast is an evening of inspiration and impact.

Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez has been representing and fighting for Newtown Creek and its surrounding neighborhoods since her election to Congress in 1993. A true champion of Environmental Justice issues, the Congresswoman has led many key actions related to the cleanup of legacy contamination and protection of human health, most notably the Superfund designation of Newtown Creek and the Meeker Avenue Plumes as well as the Greenpoint Oil Spill investigation and cleanup. In fact, the Congresswoman has had the unique distinction of representing all four of NYC’s federal Superfund sites. Whether it is fighting for her homeland of Puerto Rico, being a leader on climate issues, or securing large-scale investments in resiliency and green infrastructure projects in her district, the Congresswoman and her dedicated staff have been a consistent resource and ally for the communities she represents. 

Neziah Bliss, a prominent land developer, industrialist, & ferry operator, founded the community of Blissville in 1830 as a utopian laborers' community designed to provide housing for workers near industrial sites. Today, Blissville is a resilient, close-knit, and diverse neighborhood within an Industrial Business Zone comprised of homeowners, renters, and residents of our NYC shelters. The Blissville Civic Association’s leadership team — Warren Davis, Tom Mituzas, Maria Davis and Katherine Bowen — is committed to our ongoing pursuit of inclusion, equity, and investments for all those living, sheltering and working in the Blissville section of Long Island City.  As a New York State defined Disadvantaged Community and a NYC defined Environmental Justice Area we advocate for not only our fair share but what we lawfully are entitled. 

Situated along the Brooklyn waterfront in one of New York City's top neighborhoods, Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design (WHSAD) provides a unique and engaging four-year curriculum focused on architectural drafting, design principles, and historic preservation. Our interdisciplinary, hands-on approach blends architecture, design, and the visual arts with internship opportunities and skills training integrated into core academic subjects. WHSAD students graduate with a Career & Technical Education (CTE) endorsed diploma in Architectural Drafting & Design and may also earn college credits. Every student has the opportunity to participate in paid internships with our industry partners.
