NACL presents a work-in-progress presentation of Mercedes: Para los Callejones by Modesto 'Flako' Jimenez and Oye Group
Mercedes is a multidisciplinary stage play inspired by Flako’s grandmother, who raised him in Bushwick, Brooklyn, after he immigrated to the US. As her caregiver during her battle with dementia, Flako uncovered a trove of personal archives—letters, receipts, and documents—that revealed her quiet legacy in helping Latine families migrate and survive. Blending documentary, visual installation, and live performance, Mercedes traces one woman’s impact across generations, exploring matriarchy, memory, identity, and the complex inheritance of familial and cultural trauma.
Oye Group is a Bushwick-based creative incubator for artists, students, and community members of all ages, both local and immigrant to New York City.
PLEASE NOTE: The start time of this presentation is 6:00pm
Note about Ticket Pricing
Ticketed events at NACL are an important base of support for our residency programs. The admission price to events contributes to our ability to provide residencies and public programs. That said, we never want concerns about money to keep people from participating. We have a long-standing Pay What You Can policy, for anyone for whom cost would be prohibitive. We’d like everyone to be able to join us regardless of financial situation.
Our online options include the Standard Admission and a Reduced Rate. If you wish to pay a different amount, you can opt to not reserve online and pay what you can at the door.
If your financial outlook is bright, consider adding an additonal donation with your ticket purchase to help us continue to be able to cover the cost for those who can't.
THANK YOU for your support and your interest in this important work!
