Join the Land Trust and North Olympic History Center out on the land and get excited about local prairies!

Native prairies were once a vital human-managed ecosystem on the Olympic Peninsula. Since European colonization began here around the 1850’s, nearly all of these magnificent habitats have vanished, swallowed up by urbanization, farmland, and pastures. Today, only fragmented remnants remain.

Learn about the rich archaeological record of the Sequim Prairie from David Brownell (Executive Director of the History Center) at an active prairie creation site managed by the Land Trust. Land Trust staff will give a tour of the Lower Dungeness Prairie project and talk about the process we've been using to help bring back this critical habitat. Learn from the past and explore the future of prairies on the Olympic Peninsula!

Exact location and parking information will be provided when you RSVP. Please bring a lawn chair, picnic blanket, or something similar to sit on during David's talk. The parking area is about a 5 minute walk on grass and gravel from the site.
