Soon Fairmount Park in West Philadelphia will be linked to the Cynwyd Heritage Trail and Manayunk. Our adventure begins with a hearty hiker’s breakfast in Powelton Village, looking over maps. We’ll proceed by trolley to Parkside Avenue at the 52nd Street entrance to Fairmount Park, and then will trace the route of the planned connector trail to Cynwyd. Following the Cynwyd Heritage Trail, we’ll enjoy the panoramic view from the great Manayunk Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge. We’ll conclude with an optional lunch at a local eatery in Manayunk discussing all the new trail developments and connections under way in the area.
Meeting place: at Bob Thomas’ for a hearty hikers’ breakfast: Address provided after registering. —Terrain and Difficulty: park trails, gravel roads and the Cynwyd Heritage Trail. Distance 4.5 miles. Rated moderate. Wear good walking shoes or boots, and bring water and snacks to eat along the way. Pre-registration required. Limit of the first 12 participants for the breakfast. Others may join the walk at the trolley stop at 52nd St. and Lancaster Ave. Transportation will be SEPTA trolley and train. Sign-up deadline October 22nd, 2019, 5pm. Trip fee includes the hikers’ breakfast, but not SEPTA fares nor the optional lunch after the walk.
