Masterclass with Kirwyn Sutherland: Rearranging Erasure

From Nicole Sealey's The Ferguson Report to Quenton Baker's Ballast, poets using erasure to subvert, explain, or imagine new worlds within found text has captured my interest and engendered a question: How can we use the resultant text of erasure/blackout to shape new work? Using Malcolm Tariq's Self Portrait as George Washington's Teeth as a model, participants will create their own erasure/blackout poems from the found text they bring and then create new work in another shape/form whether that be another erasure or a completely new invention.

Instructions: Participants should bring at least two non-poetry texts to work with during the session.
