Voices are complicated, especially when it comes to gender.  We all know the stereotypical voice prints often associated with specific gender identities.  But we also know not everybody's voice is stereotypical!  So what's an actor to do?

Queer Vox is proud to present Voice & Gender, a set of three workshops for LGBTQIA+ voice actors to explore their own vocal toolbox, discovering what sounds feel right for them in daily life, and what other sounds they can use to explore characters. Whether for gender affirmation, discovery, or to add a new tool to your belt, these courses will set aside presumptions and challenge you to find new ways to use your vocal instrument, helping you build a healthy foundation for future practice and starting your journey toward a voice that feels more authentically you!  Voice & Gender starts with a mandatory Vocal Empowerment class, taught by Marin Miller and Kevin Dorman. Once you complete that, you can take either or both of our gender specific workshops: Transfemme Voices (taught by Christine Schermerhorn and Adi Cabral) and Transmasc Voices (taught by Aaron Ayala and Avi Roque).  Vocal Empowerment is a prerequisite to the other two workshops.

Spring Schedule (all 4:00-7:00pm PT)

Vocal Empowerment - 4/14

Transfemme Voices - 4/21 (sign-ups open on 4/17)

Transmasc Voices - 4/23  (sign-ups open on 4/17)

All classes are open to individuals of all identities, 12 students per class.  We will open up an additional section of Vocal Empowerment should this one fill up.  Audit spaces will only open when two sections are near capacity.  Purchasing a seat in a workshop is NOT considered a donation.  Tax-deductible donations may be made in the "Make a Donation" space.  This is not required, but any contribution will help defray the cost for scholarship students.

Queer Vox is committed to providing access to training without adding financial burden to our community.  Please select the ticket tier based upon your current financial abilities.  If you can pay more, please do, as it helps defray the cost for those whose resources are more limited.  If a tier at your price point is sold out, please let us know. Students experiencing financial hardship may apply for free tuition to this class.  We ask for a very brief explanation of your situation to confirm your status. Please email admin@queervox.org if you would like to apply for this tier.
