Join Queerly ME and Garnet Villages for an outdoor zine-making skill share and community fire! Participants will create and take home a zine incorporating elements from each creation station including linocut printing, gelli plate printing, collage, and creative writing. Participants will explore the following prompts during the creation process:

• If the community were an ecosystem...

• What I bring to my village...

• My map of belonging.

Participants will begin the day by learning how to fold zines, along with a brief overview of how zines have historically been used. Once zines are assembled, participants will move between creation stations to explore the different techniques we will use to create our pages. We’ll conclude the day by inviting participants to share their finished zines around the campfire.

All ages are welcome, but minors must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. This gathering is LGBTQIA+ centered and allies are welcome.

Accessibility:

This event will take place outdoors. Public bathrooms are available within a short walking distance. Parking is limited to street parking. The area surrounding the campfire is mostly flat grass with some uneven patches. The stations will be located on pavement with a slight incline.

More about our program partner:

Garnet Villages is a cooperative co-living community for creatives nestled in the foothills of western Maine. It houses eight full-time residents, four of whom will be facilitating this event.

Molly (she/her) will be leading the linocut station. She is the founder of Garnet Villages and a Maine Master Naturalist who can often be found birdwatching in her spare time.

Kolyn (they/them) will be heading the collage station. Kolyn is currently an education major at UMF and strongly believes in connecting people through the sharing of knowledge—a value they will bring into their work for this event.

Leah (she/her) will be directing the writing station. Leah is an avid writer who enjoys crafting complex, high-fantasy worlds. She has served in a leadership position for many prior Garnet Villages events and is excited to bring her experience to this workshop!
