Have you heard about Jefferson City's proposed homeless shelter ordinance?
The City's Public Works and Planning Committee has advanced a proposed ordinance that would establish new regulations for homeless shelters, severe-weather shelters, soup kitchens, and daytime resource centers.
But what does the ordinance actually say?
Would it affect our existing shelters? What about churches that provide overnight shelter? What new requirements would organizations have to meet? And how could these changes affect people experiencing homelessness?
We're hosting a FREE Community Education Forum to help residents understand the proposal and hear directly from people familiar with shelter operations and homelessness services.
We'll begin with a plain-language presentation about the ordinance, followed by a panel discussion featuring local shelter providers and homelessness expertise. Representatives from the City will also be invited to participate.
