“How can I mother others, while still mothering myself?” In this workshop, we’ll demystify motherhood by looking at the internal, familial, and systemic perspectives that shape motherhood through discussion and craft. We will read excerpts from essays, memoirs, and other nonfiction works to witness how mothers occupy a hyper-visible yet invisible space, especially those not exclusively while Black. In addition to ample discussion, we’ll explore writing prompts that ask us vital questions about how we show up as mothers and preserve a sense of self. Participants find support in expanding their discussion of motherhood on the page by developing their own personal narratives of motherhood and exploring those of other maternal figures in their lives. 

This class is mother-writer encouraged but not exclusive.
