LOW COST INTERGENERATIONAL WORKSHOP SERIES FOR ART AND EARTH-LOVERS AGES 10 & UP!
This series of weekly workshops (October 11th - November 9th, 10am to 12:30pm) offers low-cost classes that instruct on earth-building techniques, which are proven to be more fire-resistant and climate-resilient than traditional building materials and methods, and will be led by an Altadena-based teaching artist, Ching Ching Cheng.
Each lesson will blend traditional art forms and sustainable building practices through approachable, fun, hands-on learning for folks of all ages! We look forward to working with Ching and you, our community members, to impart real-life skills that we can all use to make our living spaces and communities more fire-resistant.
Projects/Activities may include:
✔️ Digging for/harvesting wild clay
✔️ Cob brick building
✔️ Sustainable design
✔️ Earthen bench-making
PLEASE TAKE NOTE BEFORE REGISTERING:
- This workshop has limited space, so please register each individual participant. (i.e If you are a parent planning to take these workshops with your child(ren), each participant must have their own registration to reflect accurate headcount for each workshop.)
- We are a small organization and are unable to issue refunds for any reason. Thank you for your understanding and support.
- Getting to the program site requires a short walk on uneven ground, and the activities will require kneeling, bending, digging and lifting. Wheelchairs at the site are not recommended. If you require addition accessibility accommodations, please let us know in advance by reaching out to info@ruckusroots.org
- This is an intergenerational series, with activities suited for anyone aged 10 and up, including adults! Both the activities and the workshop space are not suitable for children younger than 10, even if accompanied by an adult. Anyone younger than 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult, who also attends and participates in the program. Thank you for your understanding!
- These workshops will be outside and mostly in the sun. We highly recommend bringing sunscreen, a sunhat, a small snack, and a water bottle to stay hydrated and protected while participating in these activities.
- Due to the nature of these projects, activities are subject-to-change weekly. You are welcome to sign up for one or all workshops but please understand there may be some overlap in information and/or activities week-to-week. ✨ What we can guarantee is that you'll gain new skills and have a great time in each and every workshop! ✨
