A Table of Our Own x SafePlace International

By SafePlace International

Thu, Jun 5 2025 12:30 AM PDT to Mon, Jun 30 2025 5:00 PM PDT

Kick off Pride Month with a weeklong activation centering Black voices in the psychedelic space and supporting LGBTQIA+ refugees and asylum seekers around the world.

From June 5–30, stream A Table of Our Own, a documentary that delves into the intersections of Black identity, sacred plant medicine, and the pursuit of liberation—available at a discounted rate, with 100% of proceeds going to SafePlace International, an organization committed to creating ecosystems of safety, healing, and leadership for LGBTQIA+ displaced people globally.

Then on June 7 at 5 PM PDT, join us for a live Q&A with A Table of Our Own creator Ayize Jama-Everett and SafePlace International founder Justin Hilton as they unpack the roles of queerness, displacement, and ancestral medicine in movements for Black healing and collective care. The conversation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring guest speakers from the film, offering a deeper look at what it means to create spaces that go beyond inclusion to creating spaces where Black folks reclaim healing on their own terms.

Key Dates:

  • June 5–30 — Discounted access to stream A Table of Our Own available via atableofourown.org
  • June 7 at 5:00 PM PDT — Live Q&A with Ayize Jama-Everett + SafePlace International Founder Justin Hilton and guest speakers

“The goal of A Table of Our Own is to create a documentary about a gathering of Black luminaries, highlight those doing great work in the psychedelic space and expand the reach of these important ways of healing to more Black people.

Another wish is to further de-stigmatize these substances so that they’re no longer seen as “White people stuff” and more as the natural balms and salves to Black people’s psyches that we’ve been using for millennia.”

About SafePlace International

SafePlace International is a 501c3 organization focused on amplifying the voices of marginalized communities to build a world that’s safer, more inclusive, and filled with joy.

We work with global and local partners to provide a foundation of safety and stability for LGBTQI+ forcibly displaced persons through access to safe housing, food, supplies, and critical information to people at risk in remote corners of the world.

The Dream Academy, our 15-week intensive virtual course led by members of the forcibly displaced LGBTQI+ community, paves the way for healing and growth with a holistic curriculum that equips leaders with the tools, capabilities, and relationships they need to assume roles of power and influence in their institutions and communities.
