About Taller de José

TDJ has been a trusted community organization since 2008. Originally in Little Village, and now in Gage Park, we have helped more than 10,000 of our neighbors overcome obstacles, 1,300 this past year alone. Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph and current members of the CSJ Network, we are rooted in the commitment to serve our dear neighbor.

Our Approach: We listen. We assess. We accompany.

We offer a holistic approach grounded in a ministry of accompaniment that starts with a listening ear and proactive problem-solving. We firmly believe that our clients are in charge of their own lives, and we are here to help clients figure out the right next step and take it with them.  

Part of our work is helping clients navigate the complex social service systems. We make referrals or reach out with them, whatever they prefer. And we offer to accompany them. We go with our clients to the doctor’s office, court, immigration, and government agencies in search of documents, really wherever public transportation goes, we can go. With over 150 trusted community partners, we offer guidance and access to the resources and assistance our clients need.

Our Clients

Most of our clients are Hispanic, but our services are available to anyone over 18 regardless of income or legal status, and they are free. Clients reach out to us from nearly 120 zip codes. While each client has unique needs, we find that most requests for assistance are in the areas of: civil law, immigration, counseling, domestic violence, medical, housing, financial assistance, and translation of documents and/or interpreting.
