We are pleased to invite you to Texas Defender Service’s Light of Justice Luncheon on October 22, 2026, co-chaired by Catherine Bratic of Hogan Lovells LLP and Mollie Bracewell of Yetter Coleman LLP. This is a powerful opportunity to see the impact of justice in action, celebrate the community of supporters who make it possible, and connect with others who share a commitment to a more equitable legal system.
The Light of Justice Luncheon will be held on Thursday, October 22, from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel Houston, 1300 Lamar St., Houston, TX 77010. Registration and book signing will begin at 11:15 a.m. Prior to the program, guests will have the opportunity to purchase Wright and Manuel’s books from Brazos Bookstore.
This year's keynote speaker is Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright, a staff writer for The New Yorker and author of 11 nonfiction books whose work often focuses on politics, religion, and culture. A longtime Texan, Wright’s forthcoming book, Redemption: Faith, Justice, and Sisterhood on Death Row, offers a powerful and startling account of the unlikely connection between a convent of cloistered nuns and the condemned women on Texas’s death row.
This year, we are proud to present the Light of Justice Award to pro bono leader Mayer Brown LLP, in recognition of their tireless and compassionate advocacy on behalf of people harmed by the criminal-legal system. We are also thrilled to honor poet and activist Ian Manuel.
