Join us for a special conversation with exhibiting artists in the Embodied Material exhibition at Textile Center, on view October 27, 2026 – January 7, 2027.

In this conversation facilitated by artist Olive Comstock, Embodied Material member artists will reflect on their collective reading of "Nobody Passes: Rejecting the Rules of Gender Conformity" edited by Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore (Seal Press, 2006). Reflections on how expectations around textile art and perceptions of gender intertwine will inform the conversation. Each participating artist will share about their work exhibited at Textile Center and discuss how it relates to dissecting this and other texts that inform their practices.

Thursday, November 19, from 6 - 7 pm

Virtual, on Zoom

This exhibition is a part of Minnesota Handwork — a year-long series of programming at Textile Center celebrating the importance of fiber art and the handmade.

Embodied Material is a collective that exhibits group shows in response to reading queer & textile theory. Together, they dissect complicated ideas in relation to their respective artist practices and lived experiences. Embodied Material began in spring of 2023 and has exhibited work at Fresh Eye Gallery, Second Shift Studio, Praxis Fiber Workshop, and now Textile Center of Minnesota.

The Embodied Material exhibition is curated by Shug Munic, and on view October 27, 2026 - January 7, 2027 at Textile Center, 3000 University Avenue SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

Please join us for an Artist Reception Thursday, November 5, 4 - 7 pm.
