About the book:

Color is a powerful force in our lives. It is a major influence in visual and verbal communication and on the decisions we make every day. "Deep Color" unpacks all the shades of the rainbow (plus black, white, and pink) with little-known facts, stunning visuals, and a critical perspective on color and the nonverbal meanings it carries.

"Deep Color" contains essays exploring the intriguing facets of color, such as imperial yellow in China or lapis lazuli in Egypt. Each hue is illustrated not just in words, but in historical and contemporary images that show how ancient ideas are still very much alive today—and also how color can take on new meanings. It helps readers unpack the color-laden stimuli that come their way every minute of every day, like the cultural information encoded in color, and media's persuasive use of color.

Destined to become a classic, "Deep Color" explores how color acts on our imagination, subconscious, and daily decisions.

About the author:

Writer, editor and trend and color forecaster Keith Recker’s almost 20-year client list includes global influencers Pantone, WGSN, Stylus, Color Association of the United States, and more. He brings to this work 35 years of adventuresome, insightful, multicultural experience in media content creation, marketing and licensing, merchandising, and global artisan business development, to name a few strands woven into his diverse career. He is also the author of three books on color. "Deep Color: The Shades That Shape Our Souls," a profound plunge into how color communicates both ancient meanings and modern stories, will debut in August 2022 from Schiffer Publications. The revised second edition of his book, "True Colors: World Masters of Natural Dyes and Pigments" (Thrums Books) was released in September 2020, with chapters excerpted in Selvedge Magazine, NY Textile Month Journal, and reviewed in many more, including Metropolis. Recker is also co-author of PANTONE: The Twentieth Century in Color (Chronicle, 2012), published in eight languages. Recker’s writing has been published by the Studio Museum of Harlem, Museum of Art and Design, Brooklyn Rail, The Santa Fe New Mexican, Edelkoort Inc, and more.
