Announcement!

The Festival Center has partnered with local artist/organizer Shani Shih to create an exterior mural on the building!

The Design:

Over the past year, Shani has connected with communities and organizations at the Festival Center, as well as longtime Adams Morgan organizers, residents, and cultural workers. The design will highlight various intergenerational communities and movements that blossomed in Adams Morgan, and the powerful nexus between art/culture and community power that lives here both at the Festival Center and the neighborhood at large.

A 2 Month Project:

Join us for a community paint day on Saturday, June 27 and for an unveiling on Sunday, September 13 (during Adams Morgan Day). Project is supported by the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities

About the Artist:

Shani Shih is a DC-based multidisciplinary artist working in murals, street art, illustration, and multimedia painting. Heavily influenced by graffiti and Hip-Hop culture, her works explore visceral lived experience and the social systems that so powerfully shape our realities. Her public art practice draws from her background as a tenant organizer, and aims to center working class community voices in landscapes commandeered by forces of displacement. In 2016, Shani co-founded the 411 Collective, a street art/graffiti collective that empowers frontline communities through public art and direct art action. In 2018, she founded the intergenerational arts space Chinatown Art Studio, and in 2024 the Save Chinatown Solidarity Network, a grassroots organization working to strengthen the anti-displacement efforts of the working class residents and small businesses of DC Chinatown.
