Our Mission Is To Empower The Next Generation of Giving.

On the evening of the event, the three selected charities will pitch to the audience and the Shark, who will question the charities about their cause, organization, business model, impact, etc.

  1. 10 volunteer committee members organize a charity event (1 x venue, 3 x charities, 3 x Sharks, food & drink).
  2. Each committee member invites at least 10 of his or her friends to make a $100 pledge (or more) to attend the event (10×10… get it?) creating a pool of at least $10K.
  3. Upon arrival, each attendee is given ‘Charity Dollars’ equal to the value of their “Pledge.
  4. On the evening of the event, the three selected charities will pitch to the audience and Shark who will question the charities about their cause, organization, business model and impact, etc.
  5. Each attendee then decides directly who they want to give their ‘Charity Dollars’ to.

For 69 years, City Youth Now has been working to provide programs and services that promote stability, personal growth, and academic and career success for youth in the San Francisco Foster Care and Juvenile Justice Systems. Our support extends beyond Juvenile Hall to serve youth in group homes, in extended foster care for 18-22-year-old youth, and in kinship care (care of foster youth by relatives), as well as in the community. CYN has been a key partner in San Francisco’s success in drastically reducing youth held in detention and has provided immediate tangible and comforting resources for children, youth and families and the San Francisco Community.

Simply the Basics is the first national Hygiene Bank, based upon Maslov’s Hierarchy of Needs. We provide hygiene products such as menstrual care, soap, shampoo, wipes, antiseptic, lotion, socks and other basic needs to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness through partnerships with over 150 Nonprofits and Volunteer Chapters. Our impact goals are to improve the health and wellness for people without homes and to save nonprofit partners time and resources. To date, we have distributed over 1million products, reduced emergency room visits, and saved Nonprofit Partners an average of 9 hours of staff time every week - all at zero cost to the community!

The Coalition on Homelessness was formed in 1987 to foster the active participation of homeless and low-income San Francisco residents and front-line staff in the struggle for economic and social justice. Through an integrated approach that combines outreach, peer support, leadership development, public education, advocacy, and community organizing, the COH works to defend homeless and low-income people from attacks on their rights and their persons, while advocating for permanent solutions to homelessness that take into account not only poverty’s devastating effects but also its root causes.

Amy Farah Weiss, Bay Area born and educated, is working to connect the dots between people in need of places to belong and underutilized land in need of stewardship. Weiss founded the Saint Francis Homelessness Challenge in 2015 to end the crisis conditions of street homelessness, and is working regionally and statewide to build a movement for Safe Organized Spaces (SOS)—a code-compliant emergency shelter framework in the form of transitional villages.

As a Child of Deaf Adults born into a marginalized community, Brandon takes immense pride in working along-side of vulnerable populations, helping craft individualized solutions and scaling social impact strategies. Since 2008, Brandon has innovated efforts to end homelessness through working at non-profits, social enterprises, and local government. Brandon is most proud of launching the City of San Jose’s homeless outreach strategy, along with the Bay Area non-profit Downtown Streets Team, in San Francisco.
