Birds in Art

Explore the Wagner's rich collection of specimens on a whole new level, with pencil, paper, and a drink to get your creative juices flowing! This evening series invites guests to experience the collection through art as a guest artist, whose own work explores science and nature, leads attendees in sketching from the museum specimens, accompanied by light refreshments and a seasonal cocktail.

For Birds in Art, we welcome guest artist Darla Jackson who will talk about how artists have used birds in their work throughout history.  She will also talk about the difference between drawing and  sculpture, and the elements she considers during both processes as she guides attendees in drawing from the Wagner’s collection of birds.

Admission

Unlike our mission-driven educational programs, this event is not free. Admission includes light refreshments, beer, wine, and a special fall cocktail. Must be 21+

About the Artist

Darla Jackson is a sculptor living in Philadelphia. She received a BFA in Sculpture from Moore College of Art in 2003, and after receiving a John S. and James L. Knight Arts Challenge Grant in both 2011 and 2013, founded the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym, a membership based community sculpture studio. Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions locally and across the country, including the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Seraphin Gallery, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Massachusetts, Thinkspace Gallery in California, and the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts.
