WIT's first quarter century is in the books and now we're looking ahead to all the big things yet to come! Please join us for a celebration of YOU—the community that will help us write our next chapter!

On Friday, May 3, we invite you to “Dream Big” with us as we raise a toast to improv’s power to foster connectedness and spark creative joy. 

On that note, we’ll also encourage you to dream big and fantastical with your dress. Let your imagination run wild! Whether you come as your favorite literary hero, childhood imaginary friend, favorite video game character, or as that elfin, otherworldly creature you saw at Comic Con, let your wildest dreams influence your costume.

WIT is powered by an incredible group of individuals, who are committed to carving out a place for joy and fun in the District—let’s celebrate all that is yet to come! There will be music, dancing, drinks and food (a gnocchi bar with a choice of three sauces plus vegan pesto quinoa), and a silent auction plus some cool activities.

Event Rundown

7 PM: Doors open and the event begins!
Starting at 7 PM: Place your Silent Auction bids, mingle, nibble, sip, and dance to the DJ’s specially-curated Dream Big Mix (based on your suggestions)
8:30 PM (sharp!): Silent Auction bidding ends!
8:45 PM—10 PM: “Moonshots and Memories” stations in the lounge* (optional activity)
9 PM: Remarks by WIT Executive and Artistic Director Mark Chalfant + the traditional “Call for Support” + a toast to WIT’s wonderful volunteers!
9:30 PM: Winner(s) of the Dream Big Costume Contest** announced
9:45 PM–11:00 PM: More dancing and fun to be had!
11 PM: Event ends

THE ACTIVITIES

* Following the Silent Auction bidding, we will have two activity stations set up in the lounge space. These activities are intended to give people the option to reflect on what improv and WIT mean to them and express their hopes and big dreams for WIT’s next chapter. You are welcome to take part in both or just one of the activities. 

Memories and Moonshots Audio Station: Stop by our audio recording station and take a few moments to talk into the mic about how improv has positively affected your life. How has being a part of the WIT community impacted you? What’s your big dream for WIT? Our very own Marketing and Development Manager Anna Nelson, who is a member of the DC Oral History Collaborative, will be running the recording station and conducting the interviews, which will last between three and five minutes. You don’t have to prepare anything or plan what you’re going to say. (Improvisers are master impromptu storytellers, after all!) This is audio only… no video but we will ask to take your photo and give us permission to use the recording (or parts of it) on the WIT website and in communication materials.

Memories and Moonshots Visual Station: Stop by our visual station for a dose of creative expression! Take a few moments to doodle, draw, or describe what WIT means to you. What words come to mind when you think about improv? If improv was a cartoon what might it look like? If you could write the first sentence of WIT's new chapter what would it say? Let your inner artist or wordsmith out! We plan to hang onto this improvised work of art for posterity (and, possibly, as part of the decor in WIT’s future, permanent home.)

** The Dream Big costume contest will be judged by a panel of WIT board members. They’ll be looking for:

• Best interpretation of the “Dream Big” theme (There is no right or wrong way to interpret the theme. The judges will mainly be looking for originality.)
• Most creative costume
• Funniest costume
