We are thrilled to share with you that West Mt Airy Neighbors is hosting our inaugural Fall Barbecue on October 28th! The event will include Southern Flames BBQ, outdoor games, a s’mores pit, garden tours, and live music. We are looking forward to adding to the vibrant calendar of fall events in Mt Airy. (We are especially grateful to be partnering with Southern Flames BBQ, as their "soul food with a mission" not only produces delicious food, but provides opportunities for vulnerable populations to experience on the job training in a wide range of areas, from food to finance.)

We are kicking off this new tradition by celebrating a Mt Airy resident who has had a positive impact on our community, and our inaugural honoree is Yvonne Haskins, a longtime Mt Airy resident and community activist.

Known for her moxie as an attorney and activist, Yvonne is also an avid gardener, and approaches planting with just as much vigor and passion.  Keeping green spaces green and caring for our environment continues to be one of Yvonne's passions—as she is now working extensively for Neighborhood Garden Trust as an advising attorney! With this in mind, we are planning an afternoon of celebration, food, and fun at Mt Airy’s newest green community space, the Mt Airy EcoLab, to celebrate her and enjoy the crisp fall air together!

We are hoping to make this an event that is welcoming and accessible to neighbors from across our community, and enables WMAN to continue to be nimble in response to community needs. We are not only celebrating Yvonne, but also so much of what she stands for-collaboration, determination, community, and commitment, values that WMAN strives to uphold on a daily basis as we serve our neighborhood.
